Our Story

TLD started in 2006 when a generator supplier asked Lighting Contractor Adam Volz what his role was at the event. He stated he was 'The Lighting Dude.' This is when he decided to start a Design business called The Lighting Dudes the following year. At the time, it was purely a concept and was heading towards more of a gimmick, although it explained who he was in a nutshell. He decided to make it Dudes as in plural, making it for multiple people to join the design business eventually, and this was always the plan. As the years went on, The Lighting Dudes picked up many different events both with other partnering systems and end users because of his experience on the creative side of designing events both locally and overseas. Along the way, there were mixed reactions about the name, as the system picked up a lot of attention from high-end corporate clients. We had one high-end user who loved the name, and others didn't. Fast forward 10 years to 2015, Adam Volz made his first serious purchase of some Robe moving lights, so things got serious. In 2018, with a rebrand, The Lighting Dudes would be abbreviated to TLD. At an event that same year, Adam Volz joked to fellow industry technician Adam Siggers, that maybe he would be a good addition to the business moving forward. A couple of weeks passed, and he rang Adam and said, "Was that offer genuine?" Adam Volz was a bit taken aback and stated, "Well, I better start a company then!" At this stage, he decided to register the business as TLD Pty Ltd 'Technical. Lighting. Design,' and TLD was reborn. Five years later in 2022, the company now has 8 full-time employees, 4-6 regular casuals, high-end projection, 150+ moving lights, 2kms of trussing, 100+ sqm's of LED Screen, and we produce some of the highest-profile jobs in the country, including Corporate, TV, and Touring/Festivals. In late 2022, we acquired former Avcom Staging, bringing a wealth of knowledge and equipment into the business. We pride ourselves on having a wide range of skill sets within the business to drive the creative and design of any event, no matter the genre or size. We look forward to what the future holds for the company in Event Design, Technical Services, Equipment advances, and simply Creating Events to remember for our clients on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, or the Sunshine Coast.

Experienced Leadership

"The true mark of a leader is the willingness to stick with a bold course of action — an unconventional business strategy, a unique product-development roadmap, a controversial marketing campaign — even as the rest of the world wonders why you're not marching in step with the status quo. In other words, real leaders are happy to zig while others zag. They understand that in an era of hyper-competition and non-stop disruption, the only way to stand out from the crowd is to stand for something special."
